This verse is one of my favorites!

What does it mean to be strong and courageous in Christ? Lets check out the whole verse! (TLV) Joshua 1:9 – Be STRONG & COURAGEOUS. Do not be afraid or dismayed , for the Lord your God will be with you where ever  you may go. This verse has a lot of good pointers but before we dig deep lets review some vocabulary.

What does it mean to be STRONG in Christ? According to strong means having or marked by great physical power, having moral or intellectual power, or having great resources (as of wealth or talent).  Being strong in Christ means that you are able to enhance those talents and strengths you had received and harness them to its full capacity through Christ who helps you become the man/woman He created you to be.

What does it mean to be COURAGEOUS in Christ? Going back to our handy dandy, courageous refers to having or characterized by courage, mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.   God gives you the ability to conquer any kind of mental blockage that you put on yourself to achieving your goals or push past your fears, He gives you the capacity to do more then you thought you were humanly capable of to do on your own.

So in other words, being STRONG & COURAGEOUS in Christ is to ultimately trust and believe that God will help you get through any difficult situation in your life, whether its through mental or physical endurance, the ability to zero out everything and focus on your goals and the tasks at hand, helping you use your talents to better yourself and those around you and so much more! Only God has the capability of helping you be the  best YOU that you can be, but in order to get there you have to know and believe for yourself that God is there for you and that he will be there always to give you the guidance, wisdom and strength you need to take that next leap of faith.

God gives you the ability to have no fears and be COURAGEOUS , brave and risk taking!

The next part of this verse says ” ..Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you where ever you may go”. Being dismayed refers to loosing that motivation and courage to push through and reach those tasks and goals. In other words God gives you the strength, courage, wisdom and guidance to preserver but sometimes while we are going though the process of taking that leap of faith there are so many road bumps that start to feel more unbearable hen they really are and we start to loose sight of the goals we had and the overall big picture of things and our trust goes out the window.

Lets be honest, I think we have all been there , more then once! I for sure have . But do not be discouraged ! This verse is a great reminder that know matter what you are going through or what the situation might seem like, God has your back and will always be there to get you through anything. He wants you to know that although you might be going through a storm right now, He sees the end and knows whats in store for you on the other side and knows that you can get through this with Him by your side.

This verse is one of my favorites because it reassures me in my faith when I’m in the middle of that storm and chaos in my life I know for a fact that I can get through this, and admit-tingly I can’t do it on my own, but I know I have an awesome God who cares for me and wants the best for me, who is constantly reaching out His hand and giving me guidance, peace and comfort.

I hope that this post gives you guys insight into such a deep and meaningful verse and I hope that know matter what you’re going through, this can provide comfort in the times of peace and challenging in your life !! 🙂

All the best!,

  1. I like what you said about “Only God has the capability of helping you be the best YOU that you can be”. I think that’s important because often these days it’s all about “self” improvement. Don’t get me wrong I realize it’s our responsibility to correct behaviors and habits which may not be the best but so often God is left out of the equation. It’s a team effort. 🙂 Thanks for the post!
